Oldsmobile is one of the General Motors marquees. It was the first of many
to be dissolved following General Motors' bankruptcy in 2009. Oldsmobile
was the oldest surviving car marquee of America. During its century long
life span, over thirty five million Oldsmobile cars have been manufactured.
It is the only car company which can dispute Ford's claim of being the first
American car maker. In fact, the only car companies older than Oldsmobile
are Mercedes and Peugeot. A well argued fact is Oldsmobile manufactured
the first mass produced car circa 1902. Unfortunately, a mishap at the
Oldsmobile factory caused the factory to catch fire. The Oldsmobile
factory ended up burning to the ground with all of the prototypes inside.
In 1910 Oldsmobile introduced one of the most expensive cars on the American
market, the Limited Touring. It cost as much as a three bedroom house at
the time. In fact, the famous painting 'Setting the Pace' is depicting the
true story of a race between the Oldsmobile Limited and the 20th Century Limited
train. In its modern prime, Oldsmobile produced a full line of cars - well
equipped medium size sedans to minivans and full size sport utility vehicles.
