Chrysler is the third largest American car maker behind General Motors and Ford.
The Chrysler name sake marquee is marketed as an entry level luxury car
manufacturer. The other Chrysler car company is Dodge which is the entry
level brand offering similar products. Chrysler does not have a flagship
luxury brand and offers top of the line options and technology under the
Chrysler name. Chrysler partnered with Mercedes Benz to create Daimler
Chrysler in the late 1990s. During this time, Chrysler sales increased
along with the quality and owner satisfaction. Unfortunately, Mercedes
Benz's reliability took a hit in those years and owner satisfaction waned.
Chrysler is blamed for the loss of Mercedes quality. Today, it is still
part of the "Big Three" American car manufacturers or more accurately speaking,
the not so "Big Three," following the 2009 bankruptcy. Chrysler has always
been behind the other two in terms of sales volume. The momentum built by
the Daimler Chrysler partnership was halted by the bankruptcy of 2008.
Fiat of Europe purchased a majority of Chrysler's shares.
